From the pitch to leadership, Coach Nico’s journey with FCC USA embodies the power of intentional mentorship and growth.
Nico first connected with FCC through a training session he facilitated alongside the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Shortly after, at the Unity Cup, he met the FCC USA team for the first time.
Having already explored soccer for development after starting with Just Ball, he stepped into FCC in 2020, eager to align his passion for soccer with long-term community impact.
What started as an exploration of sports-based development quickly evolved into a career-defining role. Stepping onto the field as an on-field coach, Nico embraced FCC’s methodology, realizing that coaching requires art and intentionality.
He learned to adapt his approach to meet the unique needs of every young participant, recognizing that success on the pitch is built through connection, trust, and belonging.
As Nico mastered the methodology, his capacity for leadership expanded on and off the field.
Taking on global coaching assignments with FCC across Colombia, Spain, and the Middle East has broadened his perspective and strengthened his leadership skills. These experiences deepened his self-development, preparing him to step into higher levels of organizational responsibility.
“Coaching at FCC has made me a better leader and a better human,” said Coach Nico. “Every day on the pitch, I’m building capacity right alongside these players, fueling my own growth as I help them discover their own capacity.”
Today, as Head of Coaches and Pedagogy Director, Nico shapes the educational framework for the coaching staff.
By translating his on-field experience into systemic guidance, FCC helped Nico realize his full potential as a leader, empowering him to mentor the next generation of coaches and drive sustainable, impact-driven programs across the entire community.
