An Afternoon at Centro Mater: Where Soccer Builds More Than Skills
Last week, we spent the afternoon with FCC USA at their Centro Mater Soccer for Success after school program in Miami, spotlighting the coach mentors and everyday moments that make this work matter.
What we witnessed wasn’t just a soccer practice.
It was confidence being built.
It was teamwork being modeled.
It was mentorship in motion.
At Centro Mater, the field becomes more than a place to train. It becomes a safe space where young people are supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow both on and off the field.
The coach mentors play a critical role. They are not only teaching passing drills and game strategy, they are reinforcing values like respect, discipline, communication, and resilience. Through consistent presence and intentional guidance, they help shape environments where young people feel seen, heard, and capable.
Programs like Soccer for Success remind us that structured after school spaces matter. They provide routine, positive role models, and a sense of belonging especially during the hours when support and supervision are most needed.
In every laugh, every correction, every high five, there is purpose.
Play. Community. Legacy. Unity.
